SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A party was held on Tuesday to celebrate the life of local PR man Ed Lewi.
One of the great fixtures of the Capital Region and Saratoga was public relations man Ed Lewi. He was a friend to all in the media and helped put SPAC, the Saratoga Race Course, and Great Escape on the board.
Lewi died on Saturday. A celebration of his life was held at a place he loved – the Saratoga flat track.
Lewi’s motto was, ‘If it’s not fun, then don’t do it,’ so it comes as no surprise that his send-off was not a somber wake or funeral, but rather a party and luncheon.
People who came to the celebration were greeted by Reggie’s Red Hot Feet Warmers at the gates. Then, inside the At the Rail Restaurant were lots of pictures of happy times for Lewi, including many with his wife Maureen and their good friends John Hendrickson and Mary Lou Whitney.
Many of the pictures shown were taken before Lewi was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
Maureen told the crowd on Tuesday that it was Lewi himself who said his death was not a time for sadness, and everyone needed to party. She told stories about how the two of them loved to share a wager or two and have fun at the racino.
“Now that Ed is in that big racino in the sky, he is in a place where Parkinson’s doesn’t exist,” Hendrickson said. “And I know Ed went before us to make sure that heaven is more fun and the eternal place to be.
Lewi was a huge supporter of the Double H Ranch and Saratoga Performing Arts Center he wanted his friends to make a contribution to either of those two organizations rather than buy flowers for him.
