SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – American Pharoah is scheduled for a gallop Friday morning between 8:45 to 9 a.m. at the Saratoga Racetrack. Early morning workouts are a unique feature at Saratoga, which are open to the public.
Thousands are expected to watch the Triple Crown Winner gallop about a mile and a half. He’s warming up for the Travers Stakes Race on Saturday. It’s been nearly four decades since we had a Triple Crown Winner. Affirmed won the title in 1978.
If American Pharoah wins on Saturday, he will be the second Triple Crown Winner in 74 years to also win the Travers. The staggering statistic contributed to Saratoga’s nickname “Graveyard of Champions”, which the track gained after Triple Crown victor, Gallant Fox, lost in the Travers to a horse with 100-1 odds.
Gates opened at 7 a.m. to the public.
