Leader of Albany heroin ring sentenced to 10 years in prison

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The leader of an Albany drug ring that sold heroin through taxi drivers and in area malls has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Officials say 40-year-old Irving Prado pleaded guilty July 15 to being in possession of 12 ounces of heroin and a smaller amount of cocaine recovered in a July 2014 raid conducted at home in suburban Colonie.

Investigators say they became aware of the drug ring in 2013 when Prado’s dealers began operating at a motel. After they were robbed at that location, dealers moved to the Colonie home near Central Avenue and also began selling at local malls.

Officials say the ring employed up to four taxi drivers who were dispatched to meet buyers.

Prado was apprehended following the raid
