TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police in the city have arrested a teen for possessing an AK-47.
Troy Police are reporting that 19-year-old Kareem Rowlette of Troy was en route to the area of Glen Avenue and Seventh Avenue when he was found to be in possession of an AK-47 type Assault Rifle. He was arrested on Seventh Avenue and Swift Street.
Police were able to disarm Rowlette and place him into custody without incident. This area is just one block south of Glen Avenue and Seventh Avenue where the Troy Police Department has increased its presence. The increased presence is due in part to complaints from the neighborhood and property owners about increasing graffiti, disorderly conduct and blocking of the street and sidewalk.
A memorial is set up in that area by persons acquainted with the deceased suspect Thaddeus Faison that shot at and struck Troy Police Officers Josh Comitale and Chad Klein.
According to officials he faces charges of Criminal possession of a weapon, Criminal Contempt with possibly more charges to follow.
