Triple Crown excitement takes over Saratoga

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The buzz continues as the Spa City gets ready to welcome Triple Crown winner American Pharoah.

Fifty thousand fans – a sellout crowd – will be trackside Saturday for a very special Travers Day.

The plane carrying American Pharoah to the Capital Region is set to arrive at Albany International Airport on Wednesday. He will then workout on Thursday and Friday leading up to his big Saratoga appearance.

The draw for the Travers is Tuesday night at Druthers to determine which post position he will be breaking from this weekend. The Zayat family is not expected to be there, but rather phone in for the draw.

Of course, the Travers is sold out, and officials are telling fans not to show up if you don’t have a ticket.

The Saratoga Casino and Raceway is hosting a Travers viewing party for those who don’t have tickets to the track.

And businesses downtown are also expecting a busy day.

If you are planning to be in the Spa on Travers Day, be sure to plan extra time for traveling to and from the track. NYRA has posted a list of parking lots and exits to help fans navigate parking.

To save time at the gate, be sure to review NYRA’s list of prohibited and permitted items so you don’t get held up by security.

Pharoah will only be the fourth Triple Crown champion to run in the Travers – the oldest stakes race in the country.

NEWS10 ABC’s Christina Arangio and Ryan Peterson will be broadcasting live from the track Saturday morning on NEWS10 ABC and NEWS10 ABC on Fox23 starting at 7 a.m.

A Travers special will air Friday night ahead of the big race.
