POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said a male body was located in the Hudson River Monday afternoon.
The body was found just after noon on Monday near the Poughkeepsie Yacht Club. The body was removed and is scheduled to undergo an autopsy on Tuesday for identification and to determine a cause of death.
Police said the body matched the description of Ian Jones who has been missing in the Hudson River since Saturday morning after a kayaking accident. However, police urged that it was only a possibility that the body recovered is Jones.
Officials will release more information when the autopsy is completed and positive identification has been made.
The search for Jones has been suspended until further notice.
