Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office makes welfare fraud arrest

RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say a woman has been arrested for allegedly defrauding public assistance programs of over $10,000 in welfare benefits.

Officials say Kaitlyn Gould of Castleton defrauded the benefits administered by Rensselaer County Department of Social Services.

The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office arrested her for Grand Larceny, Welfare Fraud and Offer File False Instrument.

“Fraudulently abusing assistance programs is a serious crime”, said Undersheriff Russo, “When you steal from these programs you are not only stealing from others who legitimately need assistance you are stealing from residents who pay their taxes that help fund these programs,” he continued.
