MALTA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say they arrested a man for stealing a car, driving drunk and being naked while in the process.
Officials say on Sunday, July 26 at approximately 3:18 a.m., troopers in Malta responded to a car accident on Plains Rd. They say the vehicle involved, a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by 25-year-old Zachary Morgan of Stillwater, sped off the right side of the roadway, across a bike path and into a tree.
Police say Morgan was then arrested for misdemeanor DWI and also for driving on a suspended license. Reports say when Morgan was arrested; he was not wearing any clothing. Morgan was released on appearance tickets to appear in Malta court on a later date and also to a responsible third party.
The vehicle Morgan was operating is registered to a local business. At the time of the arrest for DWI, it was not known if Morgan had permission or not to drive it.
At approximately 7:30 a.m. on the same day, troopers in Malta received a complaint about a stolen vehicle in the Town of Malta. It was quickly learned that the vehicle Morgan crashed was the vehicle reported stolen.
Morgan was contacted and turned himself in to the Malta barracks and charged with Grand Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, a felony. He’s expected in court on a later date.
