PERTH, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Two of the five companies selected to grow and manufacture medical marijuana will be in the Capital Region, including one at Tryon Technology Park in Perth.
The company behind the Perth location is Empire State Health Solutions. It has already begun making way for it.
“Our team and our Minnesota experience, it has a very similar regulatory model to that in New York,” CEO Dr. Kyle Kingsley said. “I think that’s probably exactly what New York is looking for.”
Dr. Kingsley oversaw construction of a medical marijuana growing facility and four dispensaries in Minnesota. According to his plan, Dr. Kingsley will spend more than $3 million in initial investment and create more than 100 jobs.
Fulton County officials were so excited about the decision, they held a press conference Friday afternoon.
“It’s nice to have jobs in $25 to $35 range for our residents,” Fulton County Board of Supervisors Chairman Ralph Ottuso said “And I think you know your tax base is going to be great, you know, after it’s up and running. I think it’s a great win for Fulton County.”
Officials said they have been working with Empire State Health Solutions over the last few months.
The other company selected is Etain, LLC. That company plans to have a growing facility in Chester.
They said the initial investment is about $5 million, and it will create more than 60 jobs.
“It’s going to be a secure facility,” Hillary Peckham with Etain said. “We have a retired narcotics detective from Rhode Island that’s going to be heading our security team. We have a training program. We have software to track the product.”
All five of the selected companies will have to have product in the dispensaries within 180 days.
