MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. (AP) – A 30-year-old art teacher from Orange County has been accused of having an improper relationship with a 16-year-old male student.
State police say Ashley Kaufmann, a teacher at Port Jervis High School, is charged with forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child. Troopers say the forcible touching charge stems from “physical contact” and that the student is too young to consent to it.
The charges were brought after state police received a complaint about the alleged relationship.
Kaufmann, who was issued an appearance ticket and released, is due to appear in Town of Deerpark Court on Aug. 5. It could not immediately be determined if she has an attorney.
Port Jervis is about 90 miles northwest of New York City along the border with New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
