Local lawmakers want National Guard service members to be armed

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Another local lawmaker is calling for legislative action tonight, this time from the Governor.

Assemblyman Jim Tedisco says he wants an executive order from Governor Andrew Cuomo to arm all New York National Guard service members.

Tedisco says the order will allow guns to be carried any time they’re in uniform, but not required.

Currently seven states have authorized National Guard members to be armed. They include Florida, Texas, Indiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Wisconsin.
