Capital OTB holds fundraiser for permanently disabled jockeys

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – As of now, racing fans are patiently waiting to get in the doors at the Clubhouse Racebook to see a few of their favorite jockeys.

The event brings a really big night for so many people. Jockeys put their lives on the line every time they get on a horse and accidents do happen. When they do, it not only affects the jockey but their family as well.

So back in 2006, the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund was established and to this day, it helps provide financial assistance to 60 former jockeys who have suffered catastrophic on-track injuries such as paralysis or brain trauma.

The foundation has distributed over $5 million.

At Wednesday night’s event, several jockeys will be signing autographs and there will be a live bankroll to wager on Del Mar races and a live handicap seminar to review Saratoga’s opening day card.

NEWS10ABC is just days away from horse racing and will be front and center at the Saratoga Race Course. Opening day is set for Friday and we’ll be live at the track starting with the morning shows at 5am.

After that we will be live Wednesday through Friday beginning at 4 p.m.
