Man drowns at Sheppard’s Park in Lake George

LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Officials say a man has died after jumping off a pier in Lake George on Saturday.

Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies say at approximately 8:17 p.m. on July 18 Lake George emergency services personnel were dispatched to the Sheppard’s Park area for a report of a missing swimmer near the McDonald’s Pier.

When they arrived, numerous civilian bystanders and rescue divers entered the water, trying to find a man who jumped off the pier while swimming with friends. They say when he jumped off, he never came back up.


The swimmer was located in approximately ten feet of water. Resuscitation efforts were initiated and the driver was sent to Glens Falls Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. It was estimated that he’d been under water for approximately 50 minutes.

The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Richmond Agbesi, from the Bronx. Agbesi was in Lake George with several friends celebrating a recent college graduation.

An autopsy conducted Sunday morning has determined the cause of death to be drowning.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Lake George Fire and EMS as well as rescue divers from Bolton and Queensbury.
