CORINTH, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Sheriff Deputies say a couple has been arrested for sexually abusing two young females over a period of several years.
Officials say 46-year-old Arthur Gannon and 39-year-old Heidi Gannon allegedly restrained two girls against their will and forced them to perform or engage in sexual acts in their Palmer Avenue apartment. They also photographed them in the process.
Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo said the victims reported the abuse to an employee at their school. That employee alerted authorities.
Each defendant was charged with two counts each of NYS Penal Law Sections:
- Attempted Rape In the First Degree (B-Felony)
- Criminal Sex Act in the First Degree (D-Felony)
- Sex Abuse in the First Degree (D-Felony)
- Endangering the Welfare of a Minor (A-Misdemeanor)
Authorities say both subjects were arraigned in the Town of Corinth Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash / $150,000 bail bond. They are to appear at a later date to answer the charges.
The victims in this case are known to the suspects but are not being identified to protect their privacy.
“I’ve been doing this 37 years; a long time,” Zurlo said. “And this is probably the worst case of sexual abuse I’ve seen in my career. It’s gone on for the last couple, several years where they were physically and sexually abused inside the residence.”
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by Saratoga County Child Protective Services. The victims, along with two other children in the residence, are in the care of a family member.
Zurlo said authorities also seized a laptop and computer from the home, but it doesn’t appear the couple shared the photographs with anyone.
The investigation is on-going and more charges are possible.
