PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) – Police are continuing to investigate two shootings that occurred in Pittsfield over the weekend.

Four people were injured and one person was killed in a shooting around 11 p.m. Saturday on a grassy lot off Dewey Avenue next to a church and around the corner from a Christian center.

Ronald Pinel, 25, was shot and killed on Saturday. A 25-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man remain in intensive care. A 20-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were injured.

Police said its clear more than one gun was used.

Cindy Hand lives near the scene of the shooting.

“I can’t imagine my child dying before I did,” she said. “I feel really; my heart goes out to the mother.”

Hand brought her two young sons to the lot. With the help of the nearby Christian center, they used shovels to cover up the blood.

“We are checking the area, trying to fix up the area back here, so people can come by,” Hand said.

Ellen Merritt is the executive director of the Christian center. She said Pinel’s mother is a member of the center.

“Mother’s just so devastated,” Merritt said. “So we’re trying to get together as a community and try to help pull something together to help her with burying her son.”

Police are also investigating a call of shots fired that occurred Sunday afternoon on Robbins Avenue just around the corner from the original shooting. Authorities said it’s likely the two shootings are related.

Mayor Daniel Bianchi said the shootings are concerning, but he’s confident authorities will get to the bottom of it.

“You want to know exactly what happened, why it happened, and we want to make sure the neighborhood is safeguarded and that there are people investigating,” he said. “We’re very fortunate here in Berkshire County when there is a major incident like this, we have a very collaborative group of people that come together.”

NEWS10 cameras were rolling when police took a man into custody down the block from the Robbins shooting. Neighbors said the victim’s family was at the yellow house.

Investigators said the man was arrested for a parole violation but declined to say much more.

“Let’s hope this is the end of it, and we need to come together as a community in peace,” Bianchi said.

Pittsfield police and the Massachusetts State Police are working on the case. No arrests have been made, yet.

Police said they’re investigating whether or not the shootings were gang related.
