NY’s Education Commissioner in favor of common core

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – New York’s new Education Commissioner officially starts her job today.

Mary Ellen Elia was appointed to the post back in May, taking over for the former Commissioner John King.

Elia comes to New York from Florida, where she was most recently Hillsborough County’s school superintendent.

Elia says she’s supportive of the common core and also hopes that better communication with parents and students will lead to fewer students opting out of common core testing.
