Vermont to improve state’s animal cruelty law

VERMONT, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin will sign a new bill into law which will create an Animal Cruelty Task Force to improve the state’s response to cruelty complaints.

The bill will also make it illegal to own animal fighting paraphernalia.

The bill is in response to a suspected dog fighting case in Bennington County. That suspect has since been sentenced to one to five years behind bars.

This is all happening at noon Wednesday. Lawmakers in Vermont are cracking down on Animal cruelty with the signing of new legislation.
