Man dies after being shot in the chest in Schenectady

LaSean Gause was killed outside of a food market on Robinson Street in Schenectady on June 29.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police in the city have now wrapped up their investigation from the shooting that happened late Monday night.

Police have stepped inside the Zaid Food Mart talking to one of the employees after their glass window was shattered from the shooting. Several people just laid down candles on the spot of where he was shot. one of them, a friend to the victim.

The male victim, identified as 19-year-old Lasean K. Gause, was shot in the chest, authorities say.

The shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m. on Albany Street and Zaid Food Market but Schenectady Police, State Police, and members from the crime scene collection unit were investigating.

When police arrived at the scene they found a man who was shot, he was transported to the Ellis Hospital Emergency Room he later died.

This is not the first shooting in Schenectady where someone has died in recent weeks. The most recent one took place on June 19 on Albany and Swan – just a few blocks from Monday night’s shooting.

A Schenectady resident of 15 years says she needs to get away from the violence.

“I’m moving because I don’t want to be in this environment, you know what I’m saying? I’m coming from the Bronx and Brooklyn, so I came up here to have a better life,” said Dawn Carter, resident.

As a mother of two children, she holds tightly onto them, hoping no harm can get to them.

“Since I’ve lived here, it’s been a lot of bad things happening, but it’s also some good things happening here which need to be exposed more,” she said.
