NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A former Niskayuna High School lacrosse player is trying out for a U.S. team.
The last time we saw Aidan O’Brien on the lacrosse field, he was leading Niskayuna to its first Class A state title. Now after graduation, the midfielder is shining on his own.
O’Brien is trying out for the U.S. Men’s Under-19 team in Maryland. The three-day audition began on Monday and features more than 100 players.
The pool will be cut in half after day three. If O’Brien makes it, he’ll attend a second tryout in August.
“It’s an honor,” he said. “My college coach texted me saying it’s great experience; definitely cherish it. I’m excited to get down there; see what I can do. Hopefully make the team.”
O’Brien is a two-time All-American. He led the Silver Warriors with 59 goals and 50 assists in his senior season.
Whether or not he makes the team, O’Brien said the tryout itself will make him a better player for college when he’ll suit up for North Carolina.
