Police: Woman used credit cards she stole from teachers

MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Mechanicville woman after she allegedly used credit cards she stole from local teachers.

Police said Cheryl Trant was attending an event at Mechanicville Elementary School on Wednesday. The event was being held outside.

Police said Trant entered the school while faculty, staff and kids were outside and went into classrooms without permission. She then stole credit cards and cash from pocket books and bags belonging to teachers, according to police.

The 45-year-old then used the cards a short time later in department stores in the Albany area, police said.

Trant was arrested on Thursday and charged with one count of Burglary in the Third Degree. She was arraigned in the Town of Malta Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility without bail.

Trant is scheduled to appear in Halfmoon Town Court at a later date.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are to follow.
