Inmate at Saratoga jail dies overnight

SARATOGA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office says they are currently investigating the death of an inmate.

On June 17, 49-year-old Thomas Ferrara of Saratoga was remanded to the Saratoga County Correction Facility by Malta Court and arrived at the jail at 4:48 p.m.

Police say at about 8:10 p.m., the inmate was found lying in his bed unresponsive by a Correction Officer. The officers and medical personnel immediately began performing live saving measures. Ballston Spa EMS also responded to the facility to assist with the inmate, but were unable to bring him back to life.

Ferrara was pronounced dead by Coroner Susan Hayes-Masa and has requested an autopsy to be conducted for the cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing at the present time.
