NY legislators highlighting Gun Violence Awareness Month

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – State legislators are coming together at the Capitol to recognize Gun Violence Awareness Month.

New York is the only state to recognize gun violence awareness month which was created in an effort to raise awareness surrounding the issue of needless and senseless gun violence in the state’s communities.

Tuesday morning legislators gathered at the Capitol to announce the resolution.

The New York State Sheriff’s Association Rapid Responder Program is proving to be a success in 35 school districts across 10 counties. The program provides facility staff and first responder’s quick access to emergency plans and other critical site information needed when responding to an incident at a school.

The organization will hold a press conference later Wednesday afternoon addressing their recent success.

For more information on the program or to see if your school district participates, contact your local Sherriff’s office.
