ALBANY, N.Y (NEWS10) – The University at Albany will be hosting a state-wide family day event in support of law enforcement Saturday.
H.E.R.O. 5k Family Day will join together 18 different law enforcement agencies that will be hosting various events at the University.
The event is being held not only to link various law enforcement agencies together, but to give the community an opportunity to get to know the brave men and women who serve and protect their community.
H.E.R.O. 5k Family Day comes at a time when many communities have strained relationships with local authorities due to national events.
Saturday’s event will kick off with a 5k; the first place grand prize winner of the race will receive $1,000.
Other attractions include a teddy bear booth set up by the FBI who will be handing out activity kits to children.
The New York State Police will also be bringing their helicopter and dive tank, diving demonstrations will be conducted.
The event will being at 10 a.m. at the University at Albany on the athletic fields nearest the Universities Western Avenue entrance.
The New York State Police are one of nearly 20 agencies sponsoring this event.
