ELMONT, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The final chapter in the race for the Triple Crown will be written on Saturday in the Belmont Stakes.
While the majority of the horse racing world will be holding its breath hoping American Pharoah crosses the wire first, one local horse owner will be pulling for an upset.
Saratoga resident Ray Bryan is a partial owner of Belmont Stakes contender Keen Ice.
The Dale Romans trained horse finished seventh in the Kentucky Derby after a troubled trip and will go head-to-head with Triple Crow hopeful American Pharoah again on Saturday. As an owner, Bryan wants Keen Ice to win, but if his horse can’t, he wants to be there to witness history.
Bryan’s ownership group Donegal Racing also has another runner Saturday, 6-year-old Finnegan’s Wake, will look for his second straight Grade 1 victory in the Manhattan Stakes.
