Beams from World Trade Center part of local veterans memorial

FLORIDA, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Adding to the Town of Florida’s growing memorial, three steel beams from the South Tower of the World Trade Center were unveiled for the first official time on Sunday.

Moved to tears, Superintendent of the project Bill Weller says the Veterans Memorial Park in the Town of Florida has been years of hard work. “It’s been a long time… three years,” said Weller.

With old glory rippling in the wind and flags representing each branch of our military lined underneath, hundreds proudly wearing red, white and blue or neatly pressed uniforms, gathered to unveil the new piece to the growing memorial.

For the first time since descending in 2001, the rusted stand strong and tall together.

To a grieving father, the memorial brings him as close to his son as he has been in nearly 14 years.

“This brings it home for me. This is as close to my son, on earth, as I’ve been since September 11th,” said Steven Cafiero Sr.

Sources told News10 ABC the committee who has worked on Veterans Memorial Park plans to bring a new piece to add to the memorial each year.
