Marines run 115 miles from Albany to Goshen to honor fallen soldiers

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– The Wounded Warrior Project continues their Memorial Day events Saturday morning with their sixth annual 115 mile relay.

The Memorial 100 will begin at the WWII Memorial at 11 a.m. on Madison Avenue in Albany and ends in Goshen Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m.

All of the runners are Marine Veterans 3rd Battalion, 25th Regiment who served in the Iraq War. The Memorial Day 100 is to honor the 48 members of 3/25 who died in Iraq.

Two members will run at a time carrying the American flag and the Wounded Warrior Project flag.

The group will take State Route 9-W South until they reach the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen. After a ceremony in the cemetery, they will gather at the Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor.

Over the past five years the event has raised over $125,000 for retired and injured service members. The relay is part of an entire weekend of events planned by the Wounded Warrior project. On Friday, they held a fundraiser in Albany to raise money to assist soldiers who come back from combat.
