Cohoes man sentenced for violent shoplifting incident at Colonie Center

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– A Cohoes man was sentenced to 2-4 years in prison on Friday for attempted robbery.

Raymond Chevalier MugOfficials say 35-year-old Raymond Chevalier was sentenced in Albany County Court for an incident at Colonie Center Mall in March.

On March 9, Chevalier was observed stealing a Northface jacket and sweatshirt from the Macy’s in the mall. After leaving the store, he was approached by security. Chevalier kicked, hit, and attempted to bite the security officers.

Chevalier was then arrested by Colonie Police and transported to Albany County Jail for processing. While being transported he kicked the doors and side of the police cruiser and ripped the back lights off of the car, causing about $700 in damages.

On April 9, Chevalier pleaded guilty to the felony charge of Attempted Robbery in the Third Degree.
