ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say they stopped a vehicle in the city only to find that the driver was allegedly drunk, underage, and in possession of a weapon.
Officials say 20-year-old Matthew Diagne from Spring Valley was pulled over at 11:00 p.m. on May 15 on Second Avenue and Sloan Street for a traffic violation. Upon speaking with the driver, officers say they observed obvious signs that the driver was impaired and saw two open containers of alcohol beverages inside of the vehicle.
Police say Diagne failed several sobriety tests administered by the officers and was found to be in possession of a loaded .380 caliber handgun.
Diagne was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired, Criminal Possession of a Weapon. He was also cited for Operating without Head Lamps and Consumption of an Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle.
He was arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
