Suspects in Lark Street homicide plead not guilty

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The three suspects in the May 5th homicide on Lark Street were arraigned Wednesday morning in Albany County Court and plead not guilty.

Sixteen-year-old Jaushi’ir Weaver, 18-year-old Rashad Quintyne and 24-year-old Mark Bowman, all of Albany, are charged with two counts of murder in the second degree and two counts of attempted murder in the second degree. Weaver was also brought up on one count of criminal possession of a weapon.

Each are accused of brutally killing 27-year-old Courtney Yates and shooting and injuring two other victims.

Patricia Yates, the victim’s mother, believes what they are facing is fair. “I think they are where they should be and I think they are there where they are going to stay. The justice I am seeing going forward, it brings minimal comfort to my family. It’s better than none.”

Meanwhile, the victim’s fiancé Robin Wiliams doesn’t think the charges are enough. “Nobody should have to be taken away from their children, their family you know for senseless things that’s especially when somebody is not involved in anything. We can never see Courtney ever again, so why should they be able to see the streets ever again?”

Weaver, Quintyne, and Bowman pleaded not guilty to the charges today and were remanded into custody without bail.

Albany police confirmed they are investigating if the Lark Street murder is connected to a deadly shooting a week earlier in Livingston Park.
