Jim Gordon announces Troy mayoral candidacy

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — City Councilman Jim Gordon held a press conference Thursday morning to officially announce his candidacy for Troy mayor.

Gordon has been very active in the Collar City over the past few months and often arrives at scenes while police investigate crimes and fires. He was joined by fellow republicans at Riverfront Park for the announcement.

He said he is the best person for the job because he’s from Troy and loves the city.

“That’s why I’m in this race, realistically,” he said. “That’s why I got started. Grew up, lived in South Troy. We invested in a home in Lansingburgh, and the only real way to ensure that your living surroundings are secure is to become involved and become a part of the solution.”

One of his top priorities if elected will be to get rid of all the empty or abandoned buildings in Troy. He said they’re not just an eyesore but also dangerous.

Current Mayor Lou Rosamilia announced in March that he would not seek re-election.

City Council President Rodney Wiltshire announced his campaign in March, and Troy native Ernest Everett announced his campaign last month.
