ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The University at Albany men’s basketball team was honored at the state Capitol on Monday.
Between the men’s and women’s teams, UAlbany has won seven consecutive America East basketball titles. Both teams were honored in the state senate and assembly chambers.
Senator George Amedore along with Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara and Assemblywoman Patricia Fahy extended the invitations to both teams. The players were blown away.
“I thought that this place was a lot smaller than I realized,” junior guard Peter Hooley said. “We’ve been walking for like ten minutes it seems, so this place is awesome.”
“My reaction was like, ‘Wow, we’re in a castle,’” senior guard Margarita Rosario said. “This is awesome.”
“We can all get a chance to be together and relive our memories of this season,” Hooley continued. “I don’t think anybody wants it to end. We had such a great year, and it’s a good chance for us to all be together one more time, and I think a lot of these guys like getting dressed up as well, so that’s always a bit of fun.”
