Local volunteer organization celebrates Arbor Day with a tree planting

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– In honor of Arbor Day the City of Schenectady along with ReTree planted a large London plane tree on Friday.

The tree was planted next to a memorial in a park across from the Schenectady Fire Station on Nott Street.

ReTree Schenectady was recently awarded Tree City USA status for the 17th year. They are a not-for-profit, all volunteer organization.

The organization says they are dedicated to the planting, care, and conservation of current and future generations of the city’s trees.  They work with local businesses, organizations and community members to educate them on the benefits that trees provide.

In the past 20 years, ReTree Schenectady has helped to plant over 3,000 trees in Schenectady.
