Cortland County Amber Alert cancelled

CORTLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The New York State Police have cancelled an Amber Alert out of Cortland County after the child was safely recovered.

The Cortland City Police Department was investigating a child abduction that occurred around 2:50 p.m. Friday on Lincoln Avenue in Cortland.

According to the NYSP, the child is Liam Brandon Barr-Whitfield. He is described as a 4-year-old white male, brown hair and brown eyes, approximately 3’4” tall and weighs about 45 pounds. He was last seen wearing camouflage pants, a gray t-shirt with lettering “This is what cool looks like,” black and green sneakers and has a navy blue rain jacket with hood.

The suspect is the non-custodial father Shane Whitfield.

Whitfield is described as a white male with shaved blonde hair and blue eyes. He is 57 years old, approximately 6’3” tall and weighs about 215 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt and blue/gray jeans.

The vehicle has been identified as a gray pick-up truck 2015 Nissan Frontier with Florida license plate 191YTL. It is believed the vehicle is headed to the state of Florida.

Police said Whitfield forcibly abducted Liam from a supervised visitation in violation of a court order. Police said Whitfield has a lengthy history of violence.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Cortland City Police Department at (866) NYS-AMBER or dial 911 to provide information on a report or sighting.

Columbia and Greene Counties are included in the alert.
