Three OPWDD employees arrested for assaulting a consumer

TUPPER LAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say three employees were arrested for allegedly assaulting an incompetent person at the Sunmount Office for Persons with Developmental Disabilities.

Police say on April 19 around 8 p.m. in the Central Intensive Treatment building, 23-year-old Callum King, 20-year-old Carter Hayes, both of Tupper Lake, and 23-year-old Dylan Holmes of North Bangor, all participated in an attack on the victim, a 35-year-old male, by throwing him on the floor and hitting him in his head and back, causing bruising and abrasions.

King was charged with Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent Person, Assault, and Official Misconduct. He was arraigned in the Town of Tupper Lake Court, and remanded to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail, or $5,000 bond.

Hayes was charged with Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent Person, Reckless Assault, and Official Misconduct.  He was arraigned in the Town of Tupper Lake Court and released under the supervision of the Franklin County Probation Department.

Holmes was charged with Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent Person, Assault, and Official Misconduct.  He was arraigned in the Village of Tupper Lake and released on his own recognizance.

King, Hayes and Holmes are all scheduled to reappear in the Tupper Lake Town Court at later dates and times.
