Two men in custody for car vandalism spree in Halfmoon, Schenectady

HALFMOON, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Two men have been arrested for allegedly shooting pellet guns at parked cars in the Town of Halfmoon and city of Schenectady.

Police said 23-year-old Clarence Hagadorn of Mechanicville and 22-year-old Garrett Disarno of Berne were arrested after an investigation on Wednesday revealed the suspects had shot and damaged numerous vehicles with two CO2 powered BB gun pistols.

Police received a report just before 10 p.m. claiming that two men were shooting pellet guns at parked cars in the Halfmoon Heights Mobile Home Community on Cemetery Road. The suspects were also observed shooting at parked cars in the D & R Mobile Home Community on Route 146.

Police located the vehicle on Route 236 and arrested Hagadorn and Disarno. The suspects admitted to the incidents and admitted to similar crimes in Schenectady.

Halfmoon resident Katrina said her property was damaged and the alleged actions of Hagadorn and Disarno isn’t fair.

“That’s $450 out of my pocket,” she said. “I’m angry. Get a job like everybody else and go to work like everyone else and pay for your own stuff. Don’t make us have to pay for your crimes.”

A few dozen residents in the two mobile home communities are now trying to figure out how to fix their cars and windows.

“I walked out, and I was like, ‘You got to be kidding me,’” Katrina lamented. “But you couldn’t see mine because they hit with a pellet gun pretty close, and it shattered on the inside into like 5 million pieces.”

Katrina had her window replaced on Thursday. She said she’s one of the lucky ones.

“I hope they’re happy with making sure everybody has to pay out of pocket for all of this,” she said. “Some people can’t even afford to replace theirs.”

Katrina said Hagadorn and Disarno did more than just break windows and damage property.

“While you’re out on $2,500 bond riding around for your next fix, we’re here fixing this,” she said. “Two guys who went on a joyride now gave not only taken money out of our pocket but have taken our piece of mind in this park.”

Police said both suspects have been charged with four felony counts of criminal mischief and multiple misdemeanor charges. Further charges are expected as the victims of the incidents are identified.

Both Hagadorn and Disarno were arraigned and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail.

Hagadorn will be in Halfmoon Town Court on May 13, and Disarno will be in Halfmoon Town Court on May 27. They will also be facing charges in Schenectady.

“Once they are released from [Saratoga County], it will be worked out between the DA’s office and the city police department here for them to appear on the charges here in the city of Schenectady,” Schenectady Police Sgt. Matt Dearing said.

Schenectady police said the two are still facing over 100 charges in Schenectady, and those could be filed as soon as Thursday night.

The investigation is ongoing as reports of damage continue to come in. The public is urged to contact the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office at 885-6761 if they believe they may be a victim of the crime.
