ROTTERDAM, N.Y (NEWS10) – NEWS10 ABC anchor Mark Baker emceed a recognition luncheon on Thursday where awards were given to law enforcement and private individuals.
On average, someone is killed by a drunk driver every hour in the United States. But numbers could be worse if it were not for the efforts by law enforcement.
Nearly 24 individual officers, police departments and private individuals from across the state were recognized on Thursday for their efforts to stop drinking and driving.
“We have been lowering the amount of deaths and injuries and quality of life is increasing for people throughout this state,” NYS STOP DWI Foundation Chairperson Peggy Duffy said. “So I think it is important to continue the effort but also to keep focused on saying, ‘Thank you,’ to all the officers who are out there every day.”
A variety of state and advocacy groups, including Mothers Against Drunk Driving, hosted the luncheon in honor of the victims of impaired driving crashes.
