Friendship Walk raises money and awareness for social inclusion of people with disabilities

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)— Hundreds of people gathered at Crossgates Mall on Saturday to support inclusion in the community.

Best Buddies Albany held their annual Friendship Walk Saturday morning to raise funds for the organization. In preparation for the walk, members of the community and event sponsors have raised more than $60,000.

Walk Chair Peter Gannon says, “By creating a positive, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere this walk invites people to come together in support of inclusion and is an event that creates friendships annually for people with or without a disability.”

Best Buddies Albany serves almost 30 schools in the state, creating opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization says they plan to help more than 1,500 people this year.
