10th Annual Canal Clean Sweep kicks off in New York State

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Thousands of volunteers will work to clean up more than 500 miles of canals throughout New York State starting on Friday.

The clean-up initiative is all a part of the 10th Annual Canal Clean Sweep, which is being held to celebrate Earth Day, as well as prepare for navigation season starting May 1.

Last year more than 3,000 volunteers cleaned up the New York State canal system. The event will take place throughout this weekend.
