Police still looking for passenger’s identity in fatal crash

COLONIE, N.Y. – State Police investigators are still working to identify the passenger in Saturday’s deadly Northway crash.

Hashil Patel, 27, died after he veered off of the 2W exit ramp. Police say Patel struck a tree, causing his car to flip onto its roof and became engulfed in flames. Troopers say a second, unknown passenger was in Patel’s car at the time of the crash. The investigation into who that person is and what exactly happened is ongoing.

Family and friends gathered at a road-side memorial Sunday to pray and share memories of the Clifton Park man. They say Patel was a man who made them smile, and they’re holding on to memories shared throughout the years.

Balloons, candles and pictures replace the broken glass and medical supplies left behind at the scene of the crash.

More information is expected to be released by State Police this week. If you have any information regarding the crash, or who the unidentified passenger may be, you’re asked to call State Police at (518) 783-3211.
