GANSEVOORT, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The mother of a Washington County toddler who died in February was arrested on drug charges.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old Rachel Ball on Wednesday. She was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree.
The sheriff’s office responded to a home on Route 4 in the town of Kingsbury on February 22 for the investigation into the death of Kayleigh Mae Cassell. An investigation revealed narcotic drugs were located in the home. Police allege the drugs belonged to Ball and her boyfriend, Joshua Bennett, who was previously arrested and charged.
Ball’s arrest is not connected to the death of her daughter.
The final autopsy and toxicology results on Kayleigh Mae have not been completed, according to police. The investigation into her death is ongoing. Protesters are planning a rally on Thursday to demand answers.
Ball was arraigned in the Town of Kingsbury Court and remanded to the Washington County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secure bond. Additional charges may be possible.
A rally being called “What About Kayleigh” is planned for this afternoon outside the Washington County Municipal Center at 3 p.m.
