BLEECKER, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Some Fulton County residents said they feel trapped after a roadway in the town of Bleecker buckled and has since been closed.
Charles Manell lives on Hohler Road in the town of Bleecker. He said the road has become impassable ruining his truck, affecting his job and making his life miserable.
“They just don’t care about this road,” he said. “Nobody cares.”
Hohler Road is the only pathway that leads to his home. He blames the large hole in the road on Mother Nature and a logging company.
“They were working on this, you know,” he said. “Taking logs in and out of here and destroying the road, and I couldn’t get in or out anymore.”
But Manell’s major concern could be a matter of life or death. The road has been deemed impassable meaning emergency services can’t make it to his home.
“They closed the road the other night, so I was told not to use it,” he said. “So we had no police protection; no fire protection.”
When he did call for help, crews responded, but they weren’t able to make it to his home.
Manell said he is thankful for everyone who has helped repair the road so far; however, he said there is still a long way to go before it will be drivable.
“It’s gonna get worse before it gets better,” he said. “I think they’re going to take care of it. I just think it was a communication thing, and nobody knows who to contact, and I just had to go to somebody that could stir their feathers and get them going.”
Crews were at Hohler Road on Wednesday trying to fill the ruts with sand. Crews said it will be a process that will take a few days. They said the sand is temporary, but they are working on a permanent solution.
