Police: Moreau man arrested for 2006 crime after current scheme investigation

FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Police say they have arrested a man accused of stealing almost $20,000 in 2006 after locating him through reports of his involvement in a current scheme.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office say they arrested Luther Jeffries of Moreau on Thursday on an arrest warrant for Grand Larceny.

Jeffries is accused of stealing $19,790 from the Fort Edward Family Dollar Store while he was the store’s manager. It’s alleged that he stole four days’ worth of deposits and fled the state.

The Sheriff’s Office say they received numerous calls over the last month from across the country regarding Jeffries. They found that he had been active on Facebook as the CEO of a Penny Stock Company called Luxuriant Holdings. The callers reported that the company was believed to be a scam and the public was making inquiries about the active warrant.

Through the public’s assistance police were able to locate and arrest Jeffries in Moreau. He was arraigned in Washington County Court and held in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 secure bond.
