Schenectady murder conviction overturned

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A conviction in a Schenectady murder was overturned.

The New York State Supreme Court ruled a juror should not have been on the panel during Jeremiah Hamilton’s trial. Hamilton was convicted of shooting and killing 20-year-old Jerome Cannon in 2008 in the Hamilton Hill area.

During the trial, Hamilton’s lawyers argued one of the jurors had a personal relationship with a witness and should have been excused. The judge refused, and the defense appealed after the conviction.

The supreme court ruled the judge should have granted the defense’s request and tossed out the conviction. A new trial was ordered.
