UAlbany men hit the road for NCAA tournament

ALBANY, N.Y. — The UAlbany men’s basketball team is getting ready to hit the road for the NCAA Tournament.

With that thrilling win in the America East Championship now behind them, the team is focused on their first game against Oklahoma.

The Great Danes arrived in Columbus, Ohio around 5 p.m. EST on Wednesday, but only after a flight crew issue delayed their initial departure out of Albany by 2.5 hours. Once in the air, some of the team used the time to rest while head coach Will Brown watched film.

By the time they landed, the guys were happy to put the travel day behind them.

“It’s exciting,” senior forward Sam Rowley said. “You know, it’s a little stressful cause we have to get to the hotel and all that stuff, but we’re excited. We do a lot of travel throughout the year, so we’re pretty used to it.”

“It feels like Florida weather right now,” junior guard Peter Hooley said. “It’s good to finally be here, and I’m sure once we get on the practice court tonight, everybody will be focused and ready to go.”

The Danes are a 14 seed, facing off against a 3 seed team.

Clearly the underdog, but even so, the team says they’re confident they can pull off an upset.

Tip-off is Friday night at 7:27 on Tru TV.
