SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Schenectady Police Department has identified another set of remains from the Jay Street fire.
The victim was identified as 33-year-old Berenices Suarez. She was a resident of 104 Jay St.
A massive fire broke out around 2 a.m. on March 6 at 104 Jay St. A second apartment building also caught fire. At least 60 people were displaced as a result.
During the search and recovery efforts, crews found four sets of remains in the building located at 104 Jay St. The first two sets of remains were identified as Harry Simpson and Jermaine Allen. Simpson was identified by police as a resident, and Allen was identified by police as a visitor.
Suarez’s cousin, Jennifer Pietri, told NEWS10 ABC Allen was Suarez’s boyfriend.
The fourth set of remains has yet to be identified.
Jackson Demolition won a bid to demolish the two apartment buildings. Demolition is scheduled to begin on Thursday and is expected to take four weeks.
