Bailey Wind speaks to high schoolers on dangers of DWI

RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A survivor of a deadly Northway crash shared her story with students at Rensselaer High School in hopes of keeping anyone from ever driving under the influence.

On December 1, 2012, an intoxicated driver slammed into a car carrying four students. Shenendehowa High School seniors Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers were killed. Bailey Wind survived but was critically injured. Matthew Hardy was also injured.

On Wednesday, Wind delivered a presentation on how another driver’s choices changed her life forever.

“I want kids to be aware of what can happen because I think a lot of kids don’t think before they act in a lot of choices,” she said. “And it’s been about me a lot, and I just want to give back to all the kids who have supported me.”

The driver of that crash, Dennis Drue, was sentenced to five to 15 years in state prison for his role in causing the crash.
