Alleged sexual predator busted by undercover agent in the Capital Region

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Syracuse man is accused of trying to orchestrate a sexual encounter with a Capital Region father and his 14-year-old son.

Officials said David Ahearn’s plan didn’t happen because the “dad” he thought he was talking to online turned out to be an undercover agent.

A federal judge chose to detain Ahearn on Tuesday while his case moves forward. The judge cited evidence in the form of e-mails and text messages between Ahearn and an investigator with the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force.

The FBI said Ahearn posted an ad on a social networking site looking for an incestuous encounter with a father and son in which he was willing to either host or travel. When he got a response, the FBI said Ahearn appeared thrilled.

He allegedly wrote he’d had a lot of other conversations with other men, but they all didn’t go anywhere. Ahearn even questioned if it was real saying he was nervous but turned on. But Ahearn was interacting with a federal agent posing as the father who offered up himself and his 14-year-old son for a sexual encounter.

The documents allege Ahearn said he would treat the boy like gold and make it the most sensual experience. In one of the last documented e-mails, Ahearn allegedly wrote, ‘I cannot wait for this to happen. You pick the date and place.’

Ahearn is accused of driving from his home in Syracuse to an Albany area hotel for what he thought would be a meeting with the dad and son. Instead, he was met by federal and local officers.

Ahearn faces a federal charge of Attempting to Entice a Minor Less Than 18. He is due back in court later this month.
