ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)— UAlbany will face the Oklahoma Sooners this Friday in their first game of the NCAA Tournament.
The UAlbany Men’s Basketball team will be the 14 seed in the East Region, the 2nd highest seed they’ve ever earned. They’ll go against the Oklahoma Sooners in Columbus, OH on Friday.
We may not know a whole lot about the NCAA Tournament, but, we do know you can’t count anyone out when it comes to March Madness. Although they’re going up against a team with more tournament experience, the Great Danes know they have a shot at the upset– a 14 seed has knocked off a 3 seed 18 times since 1985.
Junior guard Peter Hooley is feeling confident despite their ranking, “You’ve just seen it happen so many times in the past. But even when we were 16 seed, we believed we would win.”
Coach Will Brown says he’s happy with their ranking, “I honestly would have been disappointed if we were a 15, so I’m happy with the 14, that’s probably where we belong. Now we got to get to Friday and play this game.”
