POLICE: Jay Street fire death total up to 4

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Two additional sets of remains were found in the rubble of Jay Street Saturday as crews entered day eight of the investigation to determine the cause of the apartment fire that left dozens homeless and at least four dead.

The first two victims of the blaze were identified on Friday as Jermaine Allen and Harry Simpson. Officials say they don’t yet know the identity of the two latest remains but they are working to identify them within the next few days.

Police say it’s impossible to know how many more may be inside.

“I don’t believe that there is an exact number that we’ve narrowed down to. In the case of Jermaine Allen, he was a visitor,” said Sgt. Matt Dearing of the Schenectady Police.
