COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – March is National Nutrition Month, and the town of Colonie held a contest to celebrate.
The ShopRite on Central Avenue held a contest to find out how well people could find healthy snacks. A nutritionist had three officials take a small basket and run around the store grabbing the healthiest snacks they could find.
The trick was finding things that weren’t that obvious or that people wouldn’t normally think of as healthy. In the end, Colonie Mayor Frank Leak as the winner.
“It feels great, especially against these two great ladies that I was running against,” he said. “As a man, I don’t know what I’m eating half the time, and this is just great; very happy to be here today.”
ShopRite has a nutritionist on staff at each of its stores for help. Their services are free to offer help about what to buy. They also said eating right is only half the equations as exercise is also important.
